September 20, 2001 - Habitat for Humanity and Christmas in April
Floorlayers and Drapery Workers Union, INSTALL Local #1823 provides valuable charity
services to associations such as: Habitat for Humanity and Christmas in April.
Our Union tries to be socially conscious. We understand the needs of our communities
and help whenever we can. Recently, we have helped out the families suffering from
the September 11th Tragedy.
Our Carpenter Brothers and their families from the New York City District Council
have suffered greatly from this tragedy. Sadly, many of our brothers were lost while
working in the World Trade Centers at the time of the attack. Their families and
our Union will deeply feel the loss of so many wonderful individuals. In response
to this situation, hundreds of our members attempted to donate their time and efforts
to the volunteer services which took place at the tragedy site. Many heart-felt thanks
go out to those members who offered their compassionate help.
To further aid our lost friends and their families, the Union has set up a Donation
Program highlighted by our financial support. This effort is called the New York
Carpenter's Relief and Charity Fund. At this time over $5,400.00 has been collected
and sent to the UBC Eastern District Office. This funding will undoubtedly aid our
fellow Union Brothers and their relatives who were effected by this terrible tragedy.
INSTALL Local #1823 continues to collect money to aid it's brothers and their relations.
We hope that our goodwill, financial assistance and combined labor will be a source
of comfort for the families.
INSTALL Local #1823 and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America
is proud to offer these volunteer services to the public. We hope that our endeavors
effectively aid our society and provide a relative, positive role model which teaches
the importance of brotherhood and community service.
