McGinley's Message to Members

10/10/2006

To my brothers and sisters in Local 1823:

It’s a privilege to serve you as the INSTALL coordinator and business manager.

I’m stepping into this role at an exciting time. We are winning a bigger share of the market than ever. We are launching new programs for members and new initiatives for reaching decision makers such as architects and designers. We also are continuing programs ¬— for example, the Job Recovery program — that have helped us succeed.

In 2003, we logged 627,262 man-hours in our region. In 2005, we captured 745,880 man-hours in our market, which represents a growth rate of which we can be proud. Before I accepted the challenge of leading Local 1823 into the future, I asked myself how we could keep up this pace. Now I know the answer.

It’s you.

Local 1823 belongs to you. Every time you step forward to help our Volunteer Organizing Committee with a project, we’re stronger. Every time you attend meetings and make your voice heard, we’re better. Every time you share what you know with a brother or sister on the job, we prosper. Every time you step on to a jobsite, prepared and professional, we earn respect. And every time you step back into the classroom to update your skills and earn new certifications, we win.

My job is to support you. With your help and with the support of the INSTALL staff, we can continue to increase our market share. In the coming year, we plan to introduce new training programs for foremen and for window treatments. We are developing new initiatives to support VOC activities. We’re expanding our outreach to industry decision makers such as facility managers, architects and designers through continuing education programs and other marketing efforts. And we’re continuing and expanding training programs for INSTALL members at the carpenters’ training center in Delaware.

The INSTALL staff is constantly looking for new directions and new ways to get the job done. But ideas, programs, initiatives and marketing efforts aren’t the only things we need — we need you.

Get involved. Share your knowledge. Keep your skills sharp. And talk to us: together, we can build the kind of future you want for your union.

In brotherhood,

Patrick McGinley
