First In USA To Get Certified

9/10/2005

Fifteen men representing INSTALL Local 1823 are the first in North America to pass a proprietary, stringent competency certification exam.

These floor covering installers, from eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and eastern Maryland, now hold either carpet or resilient certification classifications from INSTALL — the International Standards and Training Alliance, a program of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.

INSTALL is a multi-year training program offered to floor covering installers throughout the United States and Canada. INSTALL members train from a curriculum steered by major manufacturers such as Armstrong, Shaw, Mohawk, Pergo, and Mannington. INSTALL Local 1823 is this region’s affiliate of INSTALL international.

All 15 INSTALL Local 1823 members who attempted the test were successful. Those earning certification are (Resilient) David A. Brett, Dennis P. Connelly, Sr., Vincent J. Donohue, Brian Kirschner, Joseph Kirschner, Ronald Kromer, John T. McGrath, Jr., Justin E. Ries, Joseph B. Schmidt, Jr., Stephen J. Suwala Jr.; and (Carpet) Michael Cimer, Edward S. Devine, John Jedrzej, Jr., Brian J. Kelly, and Steve Watson.
